about

Harriet Tubman is an 11 part musical suite composed by Marcus Shelby that is inspired by the life and work of American hero Harriet Tubman and based on the book "Harriet Tubman: Bound for the Promised Land" by Kate Clifford Larson. Shelby composed the music for his 15 piece big band orchestra featuring vocalists Faye Carol, Kenny Washington, Jeannine Anderson, and Joseph Mace. The musical suite contains 10 original compositions and 1 rearranged spiritual "Go Down Moses" and is inspired by her life born into slavery, her escapes, her work during the Civil War, and her work fighting for Women's Rights.
